From humble beginnings with one fish and chip shop in 1998, they soon opened their flagship store in Promenade Mall in 2002, with their sixth and most recent store opened in VanRiebeeckshof in 2012. Though Manuel has retired, the group is run by his children, and headed up by Christina Ramos. Calamari Fisheries has recently partnered up with Blue Planet, the marketing agency behind Roman’s Pizza. The directors, Bonnie Lee, and John Nicolakakis are veterans in the take-away industry, with John having run Roman’s Pizza for over 10 years. Having successfully penetrated the Western Cape market, the group has set its sights on expansion within the rest of South Africa.
